3D Video Experimentation

MessageMakers has started to do some video work in 3D and set out to do some experimentation last week with a local band, The Hat Madder, looking for a music video.

We found out we had the band available only one day before the shoot, so we quickly came up with a concept.

How Do You Pass On What You Know?

Change in project roles and project leaders happens. When it happens, how do you prepare to pass on what you know to the next person who needs to handle it?

It's easy to remember to pass on the written documents you work with regularly, or to point them at the folder of project materials on the file server.

How Do You Thank Your Volunteers?

The past few weeks have been full of work on local festivals driven by some very dedicated volunteers. Like most nonprofits, this one couldn't hope to survive without the enthusiastic volunteer support it receives.

Today, I'm contemplating a simple question: how do you thank your volunteers? How do you let them know that their work matters?

Here are a few examples I've seen in action:

Food / drinks: If you're going to be working for free, it's nice to have your basic needs met while you're doing it.

13 Tips on Constructing Great Event Websites

Lately, my work life is full of adjustments to event websites, so I thought I'd talk a little about what makes a good event website.

Share inspiration and set expectations. The Web isn't so different from any other communication—if people are inspired to attend and have a decent understanding of what to expect, you've done a good job.

Videos for Michigan State University

It's been our pleasure to work with various departments and divisions of Michigan State University to create great video work. We've not yet shared those here, so enjoy a few samples.

Here is "Wharton Center Beyond the Stage," winner of a 2010 Communicator Award of Distinction:

We've also recently produced "The Bioeconomy" (2010 Bronze Telly), a James Madison College video series (2009 Hermes Creative Platinum Award), and Academic Computing & Network Services' "50 Years of Computing" (2008 Bronze Telly, 2007 Ava Platinum Award).

Thanks, MSU, for being such a great partner.
