Apple Mail instructions

After configuring your account on the Web, you will need to configure your Email client to access the new account. Below are instructions for setting up Apple Mail to access the new account.

Modify Existing Account: Launch Apple Mail and select 'Preferences...' from the 'Mail" menu from the top menu bar. Click on 'Accounts' and select your current Message Makers account. Change the Description field to 'OLD MM IMAP', the Email Address to 'YourAccount@messagemakers-server.com', your full name, Incoming Mail Server to 'messagemakers-server.com', User Name to 'YourAccountName', and your old password. The Outgoing Mail Server can stay the same if you are outside of the Message Makers office. If you are inside the office, make the following changes..

Outgoing Mail Server (in Message Makers office): Click on the 'Server Settings...' button and enter 'messagemakers-server.com' in the Outgoing Mail Server field, select 'Password' Authentication, enter "YourAccountName' and old account password.

Adding New Mail Account: Now that you have your old account configured, select 'Add Account...' from the File menu.

General Information: Select 'IMAP' as the Account Type, enter 'IX MM IMAP' as the Account Description, your full name, and 'AccountName@messagemakers.com' in the Email Address.

Incoming Mail Server: Enter 'mail.messagemakers.com' as the Incoming Mail Server, 'MyAccountName@messagemakers.com' for the User Name, and your new account password.

Outgoing Mail Server (in Message Makers office): Outgoing Mail Server would be set to 'mail.messagemakers.com', Use Authentication is not selected, with no User Name and Password.

Outgoing Mail Server (outside Message Makers office): Outgoing Mail Server would be set to your ISP's SMTP server, and Authentication, User Name and Password set according to their instructions. If your ISP allows you to use your Email Account service then configure according to instructions for inside Message Makers in previous image.

Account Summary: Verify all your settings are correct. If not, click Go Back and make any necessary changes. When satisfied click Continue.

Conclusion: You are finished setting up your new account. Click Done to proceed to your Mailbox configuration.

New Account Listing: You should now see under the main InBox side menu a new entry 'IX MM IMAP'. If you do not see the folders under your IX MM IMAP InBox, click on the small arrow to the left of the entry. You should now see Drafts, Junk, sent-mail, and trash. These are the folders you created in the previous Webmail account configuration. You can now assign these server folders to the Mailbox categories in AppleMail.

Server Folder Assignment: Click on the first server folder 'Draft' and then select 'Use This Folder For' from the Mailbox menu item and select 'Drafts'. This will conntect your server folder to the Mailbox category 'Drafts'.

Server Folder Assignment: Once the assignment is complete, the 'Drafts' folder is removed from beneath the IX MM IMAP InBox and will appear under the category 'Drafts' and labeled IX MM IMAP. Repeat the step above to assign the other server folders to their respective MailBox categories.

Server Folder Assignment: When you have completed that task your side menu bar should show all your server folders assigned to their respective MailBox categories. You can now access mail from either your old account or new account by selecting either OLD MM IMAP or IX MM IMAP. You can also now move (drag-and-drop) or copy (option-drag-and-drop) messages from your old account to your new account.

New Mailbox Creation: This final step also shows you how to create message mailboxes where you can store your old messages. First you will need to select which INBOX you want to be the creation point for the new mailbox. Then select 'New Mailbox...' from the Mailbox menu.

New Mailbox Creation: When the dialog box comes up indicating it will create a sub-mailbox, enter the name of the mailbox in the field and press OK. The server creates all new mailboxes under the primary InBox of the account. If you create a Mailbox at the top level of the side menu bar, the mailbox and all messages in contains will be stored on your local machine.

New Mailbox Creation: Once the preceeding step is complete, you will see the new mailbox appear beneath the account InBox

Account Deletion: Once you have concluded all of your mail administration and don't need to have the old account in your mail client, go to 'Preferences' under the 'Mail' menu, click on 'Accounts', select 'OLD MM IMAP' and click on the '-' box beneath the side 'Accounts' field. If you need to again access anything off of the old server, you can readd the account using the 'Add Account' instructions above using the old server settings from the first first step.
